Places to See![]() Kihim Beach: Kihim a nearby un-spoilt and isolated beach has also a lot to offer; woods brimming with wild flowers, rare butterflies and birds. Kihim is famous for its birds. Kihim is exclusive beach, laced with lush coconut tree. The inviting part of it is that Kihim is entirely undiscovered and unpolluted. Undheri Fort: Island fort is the Undheri fort which is 300m away from the Khanderi fort. It was constructed in1680 by Siddi Qasam. This fort was ruled by Peshwas, Siddis, and Angres and last by the British. Travelers are allowed to visit the place using local boats. Varsoli Beach: Close to Alibaug lies Varsoli Goan with this beautiful & tranquil Beach. Actually, it’s a continuation from main Beach (Kulaba fort) towards North on the west side. The entire beach is lined by tall trees. The sunset view from this beach is mesmerizing. Alibaug beach: The Alibaug beach itself is a small walk from the Alibaug bus depot. This charming beach is a sight for sore eyes, with its proud coconut trees swaying in the breeze and the great sea glistening in the light of the gorgeous blue skies above. Those who like a hint of adventure can wade out to the Kulaba fort, 1- 2 km off the shore of this marvelous beach. You can do this only during low tide because during high tide, you can only access this fort by boat. Do keep this in mind when you plan the time you visit this fort, and also make sure that you return back to shore before the low tide runs out.
Kolaba Fort : The Kolaba Fort was constructed by Shivaji Maharaj. It is located 2 km inside the sea. Visitors can visit the fort only during low tide. The fort consists of sweet water well in the middle. There are many temples and fortifications along guns which face the sea. The fort is 300 years old. Carvings of tigers, peacocks, and elephants on the entrance arch can be seen. Near the gate there are shrines of Mahishasura and Padmavathi and other gods along with fort deity. A Ganesha temple was built in front of the sweet water tank in 1759. A token entry fee for the visitors is charged by the Archaeological Survey of India. Kanakeshwar Forest: The Kanakeshwar Forest is a dense forest. Tourists are allowed to venture into the forest at their own risks. The population of the forest comprises of wild boars, poisonous snakes and panthers. They are the right owners of the forest. The silence of the jungle and the hills can be felt in this area. Wild leopards can be seen roaming the forest areas. Even though the Kanakeshwar Forest is dense, it has a lush green look. But due to its depth, the forest looks dark even during the day time. Kanakeshwar Devasthan Temple: The Kanakeshwar Devasthan Temple is 13 km from Alibag. This is a very famous Shiva temple. The temple is on a 900 feet high hill. To get to the temple one has to climb a flight of 5000 well paved stairs. One forgets the tiredness as soon as one enters the temple premises. This temple premises comprises of various
small temples. The Shiva temple is the main temple. The height of the
Lord is 54 ft. Behind the temple is the Pushkarna Kund. No one is allowed
